What Is a Course Handicap?

Your Course Handicap represents how many strokes you’ll get (or give) when playing a specific golf course. It adjusts your Handicap Index based on the course’s slope rating and course rating — so you’re playing on fair terms, regardless of how easy or hard the course is.

Official Formula:

Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Rating – Par)

Use this before every round if you’re:

  • Playing at a new course
  • Entering a competition or tournament
  • Switching from 18 to 9 holes
