What’s the Difference Between Ball Speed and Swing Speed?
- Swing Speed is how fast the clubhead is moving when it strikes the ball.
- Ball Speed is how fast the golf ball leaves the clubface after impact.
- These two are connected by your smash factor (Ball Speed ÷ Swing Speed).

- Ball Speed = Swing Speed × Smash Factor
- Swing Speed = Ball Speed ÷ Smash Factor
Smash factor typically ranges:
- Driver: 1.45 (ideal)
- Irons: 1.30–1.38
- Wedges: Around 1.25
