Try an Example:

How Wind and Elevation Affect Golf Shots

Wind Adjustments (approximate):

  • For every 1 mph of wind, adjust by ~0.5% of the shot’s distance
  • Example: A 10 mph headwind on a 150-yard shot may require an extra 7–8 yards

Elevation Adjustments:

  • Add 1 yard for every foot downhill
  • Subtract ~1 yard for every 1.5 feet uphill
  • A 20-foot drop could play 13+ yards shorter — a club or more!
